It's legit. Called USAA and they outsource these peeps to do their grunt work. I told USAA this was a bad idea and that I'd rather do a survey online 'securely' rather than call a non-usaa tele# and dole out my personal info. Moreover, usaa told me the survey was optional....hmmm, I smell a rat. Optional is code for selling information. How frickin naive and moronic is usaa to outsource the collection of personal info, or maybe they're makin a few$$ on the side. I called the survey # after hours and it was like back to back product advertisements on the recording. Again I smell a rat. Info is big bucks. Usaa has really gone downhill in the last decade imho. And outsourcing is a bad sign of a company losing its soul.
Received two calls from 1-727-373-7491. The caller ID said "AAA Ins Group" and the caller claimed to be from AAA Auto Insurance. During both calls they attempted to obtain my Driver's License Number claiming it was missing from our policy. (Strange that it would suddenly be missing after 7-8 years with AAA Insurance.) I called AAA Insurance myself today and they have NO RECORD of anyone calling my home - AND they did not need my driver's license number since IT WAS ALREADY IN THEIR RECORDS. Definitely sounds like someone is "phishing" by phone in attempt at identity theft. AAA Insurance is investigating. The real AAA said they would not call for that information if needed; they would request it via letter.
GOt a call from 727-373-7491, claiming to be calling on behalf of USAA. They asked about an insurance policy that I no longer have, which I logged into my account to double check. I'm sure if it was really USAA, they could have logged in and seen the same thing.
Same thing, got a call saying they are with USAA, but when i gave them my policy number they told me they "couldnt look it up, and needed more information". I hung up and called USAA and asked if there was any activity to my account on their end and they said no one from USAA was attempting to contact me. Beware!!
Same thing. I received a message stating they needed information for my USAA Homeowner policy, and asked what type of home heating system I had. This question seemed ridiculous, so I ran the phone number and sure enough it looks like a pfishing scam.
USAA did send notifications that they were hiring a 3rd party caller to update their records on your home heating system. This is true John/NJ.
They called me too but I did not give them any info - everytime I update my info with USAA my rates go up - I just tell them it's the same whatever they have on record.
