It's legit. Called USAA and they outsource these peeps to do their grunt work. I told USAA this was a bad idea and that I'd rather do a survey online 'securely' rather than call a non-usaa tele# and dole out my personal info. Moreover, usaa told me the survey was optional....hmmm, I smell a rat. Optional is code for selling information. How frickin naive and moronic is usaa to outsource the collection of personal info, or maybe they're makin a few$$ on the side. I called the survey # after hours and it was like back to back product advertisements on the recording. Again I smell a rat. Info is big bucks. Usaa has really gone downhill in the last decade imho. And outsourcing is a bad sign of a company losing its soul.
Same thing.. claiming to be from USAA. (FYI there is no Sgt on my USAA acct.) Here is the actual Vonage voicemail that I received (via email, as Vonage sends you your VM in text format):

If this is a "survey" company for USAA, as some suggest above, then why do they (a) have misinformation (eg "Sgt" when there is no "Sgt" on my policy), and (b) ask me to ensure they have accurate information about my auto policy?
A person speaking very broken English called my cell stating it was on behalf of USAA. When I asked them to call my home phone number for better reception they didn't have it which is strange because it is my USAA primary contact number. Sounded shady even though USAA did advise someone would be calling to go over my automobile policy.
This is from the third party calling on behalf of USAA, to verify our auto insurance information-- they asked for either me or my husband. They do these on a regular basis (every year? every couple of years?), and USAA did send out notice via postcard to let me know to expect this call. I was at work and unable to take the call, but the voicemail left the regular USAA customer service number as a call-back number, so it's legit.
