This is a legitimate call.

I got a call from them on my cell Sun. @ 3:53pm.  The guy identified himself as calling from the e-billpay department at my credit union. He asked to speak to my husband, and refused to tell me what the problem was, as the account was in my husband's name.  I am on the acct. jointly, and explained to the man that I am the one in charge of paying bills for the household.  He insisted that he did not have my name, so therefore could not speak to me.  I put my husband on the phone, and we were told that a payee had returned a check to our CU, as our account with them had been closed and we did not owe them any money.  We had recently traded in a car, and purchased a new one through the same creditor.  Of course the new car has a different account number.  I already knew that the funds had been returned to me, as I had seen the transaction posted a week ago.  I had set up the new car account, and stopped the auto-pay on the old one.  I just hadn't done it soon enough.

My husband informed the gentleman that from now on, I was the one to be spoken to about our account.  (Hubby is in the dark about how to pay out bills.)  The gentleman got my info from my husband, and all is right with the world.  I'm actually glad that since the guy didn't see my info on the account (I don't know why) that he wouldn't speak to me.

I was suspicious of this number, as you should be with any third party who calls you about your banking information.  So I called my credit union, and they were able to confirm that this was their fraud handling department, and transfer me internally.  It turns out that someone had been using my card all over town while I was at work, and they caught it within a few hours, and flagged all the charges as fraud for me.

They're legit, but if you have any concerns at all, call the bank or credit union they say they're representing, and confirm.
