I just received a call back from United HealthCare (763-367-4780) on a matter that I had previously discussed with UHC. The call was from the same representative with whom I had spoken yesterday, and she called me back today to give me the results of her conversation with my doctor's office regarding a claim. Today's call was one that I had expected, and had been waiting for, so I know for a fact that the call that I received from this number today was in fact from UHC.
*NOTE: I googled this number because I missed the call the first time it came in, and since there was no caller ID and I did not recognize the number, I wanted to know who it was. It is definitely true that it would certainly be nice if companies that are calling you - at least those that know you want to talk to them - would identify themselves with a caller ID. ALSO - just for the record, MOST of the calls that I receive with no caller ID or something like "out of area" are, of course, either hang-up, marketing, survey or SCAM.
**ADDITIONAL NOTE: This was not an "Unknown" call, but this website offers no option to indicate that this was a legitimate call.
This definitely is NOT a legitimate number for United Health Care. They called my mother, whom I have not lived with for forty years, stating they had a complaint against me. Neither of us have United Health Care. This is a scam.
Folks, this really IS UnitedHealthcare Claims Department. The man who called understood my concern for security. In talking with him, he did give me one piece of information that definitely verified he was a legitimate representative of UnitedHealthcare. I called UnitedHealthcare. The agent verified that the issue the man called about did occur at the date in question--specifically, when my claim was sent to UnitedHealth Claims Department. I didn't just "Google" the calling number but contacted UnitedHealthcare to verify that it was a legitimate call.
He gave you "one piece of information" that verified him? What type of information was that?
Did you call the number on the back of your card? Anyone who has doubts about a call supposedly from UnitedHealth should call the number on the back of the card. I have UnitedHealth and there are several numbers on the back of the card you can call.
In any event, googling out this number shows a lot of complaints about cold calls and failure to leave a message and requests for information that the caller should have.
In short, this looks like a scam . If you call that 763 number you just get some sort of messaging system. Nothing about UnitedHealth at all.
If anyone is a member of any legitimate healthcare group and you have any questions, you should ONLY call the number on the back of your ID card.
