This is a VERIZON customer service number... with that said, do not trust your caller ID. Criminals have the capability to "spoof" numbers on caller ID. With the right hardware, they can make any number show up in your caller ID...
I received a call from this number after being accidentally disconnected from Verizon customer service. The person calling was the same person at Verizon that accidentally hung up on me. No phishing involved. 100% legitimate.
I just got a call from this number.. they did say they were calling for verizon wireless .. something about someone else used to have my cell ## . and they still had an account hooked to that number. that they needed my authorization to close their account?? sounded too fishy for me.. but i wrote down the ## . so if it is a fishing call , what are they fishing for? sorry i've never heard of that term.
Its often spelled "phishing", They were trying to get information about you.
They started with a phone number. You spoke to them so now they know someone has the number and they have a good guess as to your gender and maybe your age. And they know what time of day you are available for a phone call. Telemarketers and scammers will pay good money for that information.
If you spoke to them longer they would ask for your address, more information they can sell. They might even try to talk you into telling them your social security number or your credit card number.
Thats phishing - fishing for information. Its the first step in identity thieft.
