Caller ID says "Auburn MA". They leave no message.
I call back after business hours (using *67 to block my number). Their outgoing message is, "Hello, you've reached MDS communications. We're a telephone fundraising company that specializes in calling for nationally recognized charities, non-profit organizations, and political committees. Please, accept our apology if you do not wish to be called particularly if you have signed up for the national do-not-call list. As you already know fundraising calls are exempt from national do-not-call lists, and many people who have signed up in order to block commercial calls still like getting calls from their favorite charities. If you'd like to receive a call back from us, please, press 1. If you'd like to be added to our do-not-call list, please, press 2." (I never do the do-not-call list as it can actually make things worse).
This telemarketing firm is obnoxious. Whatever group they represent, please, don't give through this telemarketer.
Probably these people :
http://www.mdscom.com/ MDS Communications - Home
on the home page, they ask : Would you like to be added to the MDS Do Not Call List?
and the link is : http://www.mdscom.com/Do-Not-Call.aspx
where they say :
=== quote begin :
Since MDS only makes non-profit, charitable and political calls, we are exempt from the federal do-not-call registry and most state do-not-call lists. However, we understand that you may prefer not to receive phone calls.
If you would like to be added to the MDS do-not-call list, please complete the form below. (One for each number you wish to register) You will be added to the MDS do-not-call list for a period of 5 years (the same length of time as the federal do-not-call registry).
=== quote end
The federal do-not-call registry never expires until the provided phone number is disconnected or the ownership changes.
Also, they are avoiding saying the federal law that created the federal do-not-call registry also requires THEM to maintain an internal do-not-call list of their own. They are trying to make it seem they are doing so out of the goodness of their corporate hearts.
