Ha! So I believe you are confirming my suspicions. These weird A$$ phone calls from all over the country (according to caller ID) are actually calls from one of those stupid call centers in India (or wherever) that are robo calls generated for a debt collection firm? What's their point of doing this? Is it part of their ridiculous skip tracing tactics to find a debtor or something?
So I did a little research on this.... Looks like debt collectors use skip tracing to find debtors and one of those techniques is called pretexting. This is where a skip tracer can be deceitful in representing who they are to get information about the debtor (i.e.. is this a working number, is it the debtor's number, etc). Anyway, it is completely legal for them to do this as long as they do not represent that they are a government official (i.e. police, courts, etc). So they get you on the phone, verify your information and pass it on to the debt collectors who then use that information to track you down and find out if you have a job, where you live, your phone numbers, your assets etc, in case they decide you are worth taking to court.
