Do NOT deal with debt collectors over the phone! Make them send you bills in the mail with proper documentation, then confirm the debt with the original debtor, NOT the collection agency. This company is sketchy as heck in their business practices. I highly recommend using a call blocker to stop the calls, reporting them via FDCA online forms, then getting a copy of your credit report to make sure no false debts are being reported.
I just received a call from this number asking for someone who has never worked at my company. They said this number was listed as a work number for that person. They told me the company name and it is a similar sounding name compared to ours. Sounds like they are just fishing around hoping to find who they are looking for.
This number calls me everyday to collect a debt from 5 years ago on a gas bill. KS Gas Service gave them my number after I moved and started new gas service, but I didn't live at the address they are trying to collect on at the time they're saying I did and KS Gas never contacted me to collect it. They won't send me a verification of debt or any kind of paperwork proving they are a real company. Today they left me a voicemail that said by listening to it I acknowledge the debt and claim responsibility for it.
BTW - I looked up KS statute of limitations on revolving accounts/debts and it is 3 years.
FIRST OF ALL JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE ON A DO NOT CALL LIST DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING WHEN IT IS A DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY. THEY DO NOT SOLICIT ANYTHING. IF THEY ARE CALLING THE WRONG NUMBER TELL THE AGENCY IMMEDIATELY THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF IT. IF YOU DON'T WANT AN AGENCY CALLING YOU & YOU KNOW YOU OWE THE BILL, THEN SEND THEM A LETTER BY CERTIFIED MAIL STATING YOU WISH TO NO LONGER BE CONTACT BY THEM VIA PHONE. IF YOU DO THIS THEY CAN STILL PLACE THE ACCOUNT ON YOUR CREDIT OR WORSE YET SUE YOU FOR THE FULL AMOUNT DUE & THEN SOME. A LOT OF PEOPLE REALLY NEED TO LOOK INTO HANDLING COLLECTIONS INSTEAD OF BITCHING ABOUT THEM.
