Got the same call from KMAX IT support in Miami. I knew it was a scam so I kept him on the phone for ten minutes. He told me his number is 786-592-0586. He got angry with me when I told him I was calling Microsoft to validate him, said "f*ck you" and hung up on me. Mission accomplished.
"PC Support Squad" SCAM!!!!! Be aware: This is an attempt to access your computer and everything on it!!!
"Peter" with a very thick Middle Eastern accent claimed to be warning me that my computer had been hacked and he worked for Windows Security and he was calling to "help" me and "clean-up" my computer. Clean-out my financials is more likely, I kept him on the phone for awhile by playing dumb and worried.....
He asked me to get on-line so that he could access my system to upgrade the security and "get rid of the bad things". HAH!!!!! One of the clues as to the illegitimacy of this caller was when "Peter" gave me his phone number (after I asked for it) was how he spoke it: 7865-9-205-86 - that is NOT how US phone numbers are spoken. I finally confronted Peter with all of the inconsistencies in his claims and that I would be reporting him to the proper authorities. He became very upset, called me a few names and threatened to disable my computer.
What is scary is just last weekend my computer developed some problems so I called my (very reputable and good) computer guru. He had my computer and found that someone had "hijacked" my ip address and other info and was running a Proxy Server from my server. Scary stuff!! He is now cleaning up my system, installing a more powerful virus/malware protection and security program. DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE PEOPLE - THEY WILL COST YOU THOUSANDS!!!!!!!!!!!
"Brad" from India.....just called, told me computer was at risk, had me press Windows key and R, which would have allowed him to have me run a program, he could have hacked my computer in a second....
Please don't fall for this....
I told him that I had to go answer the door, and that I would call him back...he gave me the call back phone number of (786) 592-0586....Googled it and ....OOPS>>>>SCAM===== BUSTED>
Also, his caller ID on original call was "624"....so obviously a scam...
Just got a call from Brad, at 6:30 am, telling me the same story as DONNAF and his caller ID was 1624. He even gave me my computer's "licence number", I told him I was not up as yet and when I get up I will check the computer, he said he would call me back in an half an hour. I asked for his number and he gave me 786-592-0586. Normally I don't answer calls with unknown name or funny looking caller IDs but I was just curious who was calling me at 6:30 am in the morning.
Educate your mother on what low life liars and thieves people are today. The biggest problem with the Elderly, which I am one also, is that they grew up in an era and society of predominantly decent and trusting people. Today, this world is a sewer of scum that believes that anything is Okay if you can get away with it. Nothing can be done since they are hidden scammers. They have already been reported a thousand times over by people.
