Since this is very likely a scammer who is calling, pressing ANYthing on your phone will most likely do the opposite of what you say. Doing so validates your phone number as "live" and available to be sold to or shared with other scammers.
Don't trust anyone who cold calls you. How do you know who you're talking to? Would you give a stranger on the street any information? Most likely not, and certainly not a donation to an alleged cause.
Did not answer the phone but if it was a charitable organization, I always ask "what percentage of each donation is for administrative expenses (or what amount goes to the actual charity)?" These fundraising organizations take a huge chunk of the money for themselves. I tell them if I want to donate to _____________, I will send a check to them personally. Or I sometimes say, I NEVER donate over the telephone. Scammers know no bounds.

A woman just called my home and asked for me and I replied and then never said anything. Even for organizations that I know and donate to regularly I never donate over the phone. I always tell them to send me the pledge card and then I will decide
Got a call from this unknown-to-me local number a few days ago. Did not answer and they did not leave a message. If it is, as others above have stated, the Breast Cancer Fund, whoo boy, here we go again. It's been several years since I had heard from them, and I thought they had finally gone away. They called me relentlessly for about three years after I had made the mistake of answering the phone.
At that time, they had real live people calling, breast cancer survivors, I was led to believe. The caller said that $ donations would go to fund necessities, such as basic personal care items for underpriviledged women who were fighting breast cancer. A small percentage of donations might actually go to the women who are led to believe they will receive help, but it looks pretty scummy/ scammy. This "organization" is the reason I no longer answer ANY unknown calls.
