No Attorney General gets involved in collecting debts, no warrants are issued, nor will you be put in jail. If you were under investigation by the State AG, real police would have been knocking on your door, not some scummy, lowlife debt collector.
They left a message at 8:30 a.m. saying I need to call back about a very important legal issue. The female voice on the message seemed unusually perky for such a weighty issue. Ha ha. Thanks to all who wrote in and advised it's a scam.
Just received a call from this number and they informed me that they needed my lawyer's info to serve papers for not filing my 2012 taxes. They stated that they have served papers to my address already(to my old address 12yrs ago) however since I did not respond, there has been a warrant issued for my arrest and I will serve 6 months for tax evasion. I thought you had to go court first? I asked how come I was able to file my 2013 & 2014 taxes without garnishment? crickets! So this guy continued to read his script and said that I owe $4K and its too late to pay. huh??
This number called me 5 times in one day claiming I had a legal matter to attend to. I actually called them back because I have had snail mail go missing and was concerned that I overlooked something. The guy began to tell me that there was a warrant out for my arrest and that the police would be showing up at my house in 5 min since they could verify that I was home. He claimed to be a federal agent but had a foreign (perhaps Indian) accent. I knew it was a scam but still called my husband because I am home alone with young children. My husband called the number back, asked why they are calling his house, and the my hung up on him. Such low lives out there...
Pretty much the same: voicemail re: urgent legal matter, Officer Smith (of the Treasury) answered. I said "Oh, is THAT who you are?" then laughed, told him I have the wrong number, and hung up on him.
Please report these so that the people may get caught. The IRS has a page for this:
https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml
Posting on these sites does nothing to help stop them from keeping on doing it, but if enough people report each one, it will at least make them keep changing numbers, etc.
