No answer - usually some slime ball trying to scam. BTW calling back always leads to a number not in service (spoofed number in caller ID)
that's the hallmark of a sleazy company.
Picked up this call which the caller ID said was from Wells Fargo Bank. Got a recording that did not identify the caller but said I was eligible to apply for the program that Obama had authorized to make home mortgages more affordable. They claimed their program was not a refinancing, but if I owed more than $10,000 on my mortgage or if I'd been taking advantage of preditory mortgage companies (!!!) or was behind on my mortgage or the other crazy conditions they rambled off that they could help. Of course, I was to push 1 for a representative or 2 to be removed from their calling list.
First of all, I'm on the DNC list and the caller obviously didn't care if they violated that. Second, I scarcely believe that a bank as esteemed as Wells Fargo would stoop to use tactics as low as this. Third, I didn't qualify for any of the "conditions" that they said would make me eligible and if they were legit and did their homework, they would have realized this. Therefore, I am convinced it was a scam artist -- perhaps hijacking Wells Fargo number and/or their name -- and will block their number. Because you just know pressing 2 to be taken off there calling list only makes them call more!!!
Just received a call from this number and no one was on the other end so I called the number back and there was no answer. My phone allows to me send calls directly to answering service so I just did that. That way, I don't even have to hear the phone ring the next time they try to scam me.
