If they don't leave a way to get off their dialing list, it's a scam.
Got a call with the message about being from a credit card company wanting to lower the interest rate. Oddly, they don't even say what credit card company.
It said press 1 for an operator. Figuring it was a ID theft type scam I pressed 1 to have a little fun with the scammer. I pressed 1 and it disconnected.
"Cardholder Services" called me in Ohio on 11/12/14 around 4:40 p.m. EST about lowering interest rates on a credit card (I have no open ones or even credit card debt). I pressed 1 to speak with someone and a recording came on after a few rings that said extension 1500 was not available and to leave a message. It said "sorry" in a Canadian accent and then told me an error had occurred.
I'm so tired of these people calling me on my cell phone, wasting my time @ work & wasting my minutes - how do they get my cell # anyway? Aren't they supposed to be unlisted? They call with ridiculous offers that you'd have to be stupid to offer, I just get irritated & hang up - but it's an inconvenience for me and there are SO many different numbers from different parts of the country (according to Caller ID when it doesn't say "unknown" it gives a town & state) - it's getting ridiculous. I've put so many "block this caller" (I had to enter #s into my contact list) items on, I've run out of room, I guess either IPhone or AT&T limits you to 10
The card service scammers WILL 'service' our credit cards, BUT, when they finish 'servicing' them, they will have NO available credit remaining! People that are fooled into having their cards 'serviced' will be charged a MINIMUM of $795.00, and many times the ENTIRE amount remaining on the card. The card service scammers are a disgusting group of degenerates, who prey mainly on the low income, and the elderly, but will cheat anyone that they can!
