They are FSU students working for the FSU Foundation and it is that time of year to solicit donations. They just called me tonight. http://foundation.fsu.edu/about/phone-center. They call me because I'm a graduate and previous donor. They have never harassed me nor called at inappropriate times. The link I posted here shows the number and contacts. If you have a grievance or are just a plain a**hole, then call the manager or director and complain. But don't post false or dimwitted comments here to scare away those that may want to make a donation to the Foundation. Some of you individuals and your comments are pathetic and untrue. And yes I am biased because FSU is my alma mater. So rag on me and not these students working through college and promoting their school!
The number alleges to be calling on behalf of the FSU Family Fund, although I didn't know they were so devoted as to work on a Sunday... If this is a scam under the auspices of an actual charitable organization that somehow got ahold of sensitive data concerning student/parent phone numbers, then they should at the very least be reported to Campus Police--the number is on-campus, so perhaps it's some group of students who think they're so "smart" by using their dorm number to try and swindle. If these annoying pan-handling calls are legit, then the university should not continue to uphold its honor code, since it has the disgrace of asking for more money from students and parents while in the same breath raising tuition and related costs.
I just looked up through the FSU website about the FSU Family Fund and it's a legit organization. They employ students to call people nightly to try to raise money for the school. They're mostly calling for student's parents.
I still think it's ridiculous that they call until 9:15 at night though.
I just got called myself at approx 8:34pm. I did not answer because I did not recognized the number...and apparently it's a good thing that I googled the number before calling back (could have been my work for all I know!). luckily I came upon this site. it's interesting looking at the dates that people have posted on here....the last being almost 2 months ago and now it starts again?
Like others have said, if it is in fact a department at FSU, well than what they are doing is extremely unprofessional and really sounds like a scam to be calling this late at night, not even bothering to leave a message and/or any contact information. at this point, after reading all of this, I am very tempted to report this nonsense to the FSU police as harassment and misuse of school communications.
I'm so glad I googled the number before answering! This message board has been really helpful. They have started calling me as well. Why can't they just send an email to solicit funds? I just don't see how effective calling student's cellphones after 9 (during FINALS week!) can be.
