This is a company that is trying to extort money from people. I got a phone call from them and told me that I owed money for a payday loan and then he said that if I didn't pay the money back ($1732.45) I would have 2 felony charges against me and that they could put me in jail for 180 days. His name is Lester Williams who claims he is an investigator for this Mediation Company, he wouldn't give me the name of the payday loan place. He also threatens to turn me into the attorney generals office and tells me that I better get an attorney. This is a huge scam! I will be turning them into the attorney generals office and the BBB and the FBI as they have all of my identity, SS#, Bank# and address and phone number.
Go on the FCC website and file a complaint then read about what proper etiquette is 4 + telemarketers and what rights they have they do not have any they are not allowed to tell you have a warrant for your arrest over the phone they are not allowed to threaten you over the phone you have the right to tell them they have to send you anything in writing if they continue you have the right to file harassment charges against thee
Well aside from the fact that the FCC has no jurisdiction over debt collectors, I guess your advice is spot on. Or maybe you need to actually read and learn something before posting inane and stupid advice.
*sigh* Debt collection does not fall under the DNC/FCC.. it falls under the FDCPA laws and the proper agency's are the FTC & CFPB, and State Attorney Generals. And in extortion cases, the FBI/IC3 cyber crimes division.
To File complaints FDCPA/TCPA violations:
Your State Attorney General
Their State Attorney general

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
