This is a company that is trying to extort money from people. I got a phone call from them and told me that I owed money for a payday loan and then he said that if I didn't pay the money back ($1732.45) I would have 2 felony charges against me and that they could put me in jail for 180 days. His name is Lester Williams who claims he is an investigator for this Mediation Company, he wouldn't give me the name of the payday loan place. He also threatens to turn me into the attorney generals office and tells me that I better get an attorney. This is a huge scam! I will be turning them into the attorney generals office and the BBB and the FBI as they have all of my identity, SS#, Bank# and address and phone number.
Please do report these losers - debt is civil, not criminal, so even if you've defaulted on a loan, you cannot be arrested. In fact, to threaten to do so is a violation of federal law. These scammers are calling people attempting to scare them into paying a bogus debt, a debt that's already been paid, or even a debt that is owed - but not to the caller. More info here:

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

This is the second time they have called me I told them to mail me proof and they told me they had sent me an email and mail a letter which I have never received and then they hung up on me!
The caller was a woman but then a man came on when I told them I was a sheriffs deputy they got a little nervous. He said,“Your no cop you don't talk like a cop we are serious around here and we don't like it when people pretend to be some one they are not,". I told him if he would kindly give me his name and location I could prove I was who I claimed to be. He hung up. I called back he said,“I am not taking any of your calls and I have told everyone here not to so I am hanging up. They did state they were a mediation company or something like that. What pisses me off is they call my 75 year old father who has Alzheimer's disease and it upset him so of anyone gets any information on this please contact me. I have already called the FBI in Kentucky and spoke to the SAC about it they knew exactly what I was talking about. I sent them confirmation that I was a captain with the Walker county sheriff's department and they are supposed to get back with me tomorrow. I also called the Alabama public service commission investigation department and talked with a friend of mine and he put them in the data base and I will update him with the FBI information as soon as I get it. I hate people like this they are scum low life no good SOBs please excuse my language I am 25 year veteran law enforcement officer and I don't play when someone makes threats to my parents. Again any information please bring it to my attention I promise I will find out who they really are and have them prosecuted if at all possible.
You are exactly right do not cooperate with them in any way. Notify your states FBI office, public service commission, and attorney general as soon as possible and record the conversation if you can at the very least make notes of any names they give you of personnel, company name or business, address, state, city, and county. If you can get a mailing address that's okay just do not divulge any personal information of any kind. If you read my posts below I am extremely upset they called my father who has Alzheimer's disease and is 75 years old asking for me and I haven't lived with my parents for over thirty years. It made them very upset but my dad is also a retired Alabama state Trooper so he knew not to give them anything. Be careful of you engage these people with the way the world is today you never know who your dealing with.
