Been getting these calls for a couple of weeks. Have never answered one until today. Said they are looking for (gave me two names, first names were the same, last names were different). Asked them who they were. They would not answer - said they needed to know I was the person they were looking for because of privacy act they couldn't reveal who they were or what they wanted. I told them they had the wrong person and told them not to call again. Evidently they have something to do with credit cards.
i've been getting calls from this number for approximately 3 weeks. i let the call go to voicemail & then i get a message from the #. i check the message & all i hear is a television (csi ?) in the background. the messages are usually about a minute long before the caller hangs up.
1) i think it's a SCAMMER because an actual telemarketer would try really really hard to leave a great message so as to entice the prospective client.
2) i also think it's a SCAM because if it were a collection agency, then the reps would be much more professional - the message would usually include all the call-back info along with a few payment options/details....hello.
Me too. They just called me 15 minutes ago. I called them back to verify. One lady said she from Credit Recovery company which I've never heard before.
Caller begins, under his breath and as quickly as possible: "Call is recorded" as if he's trying to get it by without my noticing. At first word, he sounds like a debt collector. On the first call he asks for employment verification. I send call to appropriate person. Called again today, asks for someone I've never heard of; I tell him there's no one here by that name. He says he "left a voice mail for them yesterday." As if. How can he leave a voice mail for someone who's never worked here? (And I've been here long enough to know.) He argues with me, we go around and around as he tries different names, none of them valid, then he wants to talk to HR person to ask why he hasn't received anything based on the fax he sent yesterday. Maybe because they don't work here and never have???
At this point he positively stinks of debt collector, not employment verification service.
I called the number back, and it was answered "Credit Card Recovery".
Debt collectors are notoriously UN-professional. They run scams all the time because it's the easy way to make money. Doing it the legal way is just too hard.
I DO agree that these people are highly suspicious.
