I'm a police officer in the State of Maryland (specifically the Annapolis, MD area). Today I took a report from a person (I'll call him Mr. Doe) who received a phone call from 864-252-8542. Two different men, who identified themselves as agents with the IRS, told Mr. Doe that he owed almost $3000.00 in taxes to the IRS and if he did not pay it he would go to jail.
Fortunately Mr. Doe knew this phone call was a scam. The callers had Mr. Doe's name, address, and obviously his home phone number (this is information easily obtained from the Internet and White Pages).
IT IS A SCAM. DO NOT GIVE THESE THIEVES ANY MONEY OR YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!!!
Nightmare from hell I was stupid and fell for this scam thank God I had no money in my account these people are the worst of scammers and identity thieves iv e already filed a police report for fraud and contacted my bank and social security to let them now that my social security number been compromised do not try loans online these people will threaten you say they are filing charges saying they are lawyer they even called me and told me they were the chief of police for my county I told them hold on I live 2 block from police station and that I was going to let him talk to him and they hung up don't mess with these people they are crooks don't learn the hard way like I did stand in line to get a loan better to be safe than sorry the guy called himself scott brown if he calls you saying this is a urgent matter don't call back or worry call your local police department and bank and social security cause you just got your identity stole
Received a call from a man stating that he was an attorney who needed to read an affidavit to me regarding penidng criminal charges against me for check fraud, theft deception, and federal bank violations. Little did he know I work for 60 + attorneys and can easily look up the bogus bar association number he gave me. Do not fall for this!
I just received a phone call from the guy who barely speaks English telling me almost the same thing you said in your message . it came from the same phone number.
