I'm a police officer in the State of Maryland (specifically the Annapolis, MD area). Today I took a report from a person (I'll call him Mr. Doe) who received a phone call from 864-252-8542. Two different men, who identified themselves as agents with the IRS, told Mr. Doe that he owed almost $3000.00 in taxes to the IRS and if he did not pay it he would go to jail.
Fortunately Mr. Doe knew this phone call was a scam. The callers had Mr. Doe's name, address, and obviously his home phone number (this is information easily obtained from the Internet and White Pages).
IT IS A SCAM. DO NOT GIVE THESE THIEVES ANY MONEY OR YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!!!
The guy just left a message for me too. something regarding IRS and criminal investigation. I couldn't even understand his accent. This is the 2nd scam call during last 2 months!
Thanks to all of your messages I know I won't be returning this call. When one of my buddies screwed up with the IRS, it wasn't for lack of them trying to contact him. The IRS drowns you in paper.
Received that call today. Said he was Officer David Fisher with the IRS, Criminal Investigaton on my name. Need to call back immediatly. Serious allegations against me. Not going to bother to call back. Hard to understand in the message. Said it was Tampa, Florida. My tax info goes to Dallas. Guess I'll see if they call again. Would enjoy playing with them on the phone. I didn't know the IRS had officers.....
Received the threatening IRS call on the answering machine. The guy spoke terrible English.Said may God bless you at the end. He certainly needs it! Scumbags.
