Check the statute of limitations on debt in your state, chances are even if he really did owe on the car, it has legally past the point. If so, they can do nothing. Being they were so aggressive, it probably has already been long written off, they know that, and they are just trying to scare into paying. If the debt is legally void and one does make a payment on it, it becomes valid again and starts a fresh timer.
Do not pay anything until you have checked to see if it is valid.

got a phone call from a Ms Mitchell calling reagarding an important matter in their office please call today at 888-362-2684. Have never heard from this company before and have no idea what this is about, I have received many calls from many different so called debt collectors who do nothing but use scare tactics to get people to give them personal info like bank acct info, if I really have a debt in their office then leave me a message explaining what the "inportant" matter is and maybe I will call them back.

I agree with all you guys about how collectors or so called SCAM collecters are SUPER rude and ignorant, but at the same time i was actually issued a 1099 and was completly blown away!! I had no idea this kind of thing was even possible but after research it seems to be a growing trend w outstanding debt ever since the economy went to pits.. I honestly wish now i would have just settled my outstanding victorias secret account when i had the chance instead of having to deal with this headache and the damn IRS....
