My in-laws received a message regarding my husband involved in a civil investigation unit. The voicemail mentioned a claim #, a return phone # 864-641-3279 and mentioned something about a restraining order and to forward this info to an attorney. I see that numerous people are getting the same exact phone calls. My husband is military and hasn't gotten into any type of trouble so we are assuming this is a scam!!!
I received my first call on 4/18/13. They left a message about a restraining order and a summons. I called them back and spoke with a woman who told me i wrote a bad check to Big Lots for $900. I knew this was not true because who writes checks anymore, I use a check card. When i explained this to her she said it was from 2007. I also knew this was not true. When I asked for more information she refused to give it to me. Then she said if I pay her half right now they will drop the restraing order. I explained I will not be doing anything until I receive all the information in the mail. She then said well we will see you in court and hung up on me. I then called Big Lots Corporate office who had no information regarding any sort of bad checks from me ever. I tried calling them back to inform them of this and no matter which of the only 2 options you have to choose from both keep going to a vm that is full. Today they called my neighbors who live in the same house but different apartment looking for me. I am furious about this. I wouls like to know how to report this.
PEOPLE, a RESTRAINING order is one that RESTRAINS you from contacting another person. It has NOTHING to do with any sort of debt! Individuals get restraining orders against one another, mainly in cases of abuse and violence.
Next time one of these [***] calls you, tell them to go ahead and file it! That will RESTRAIN them from contacting you again! Tell them you WANT the order, and to file it immediately!
I also received this message. They called me and my daughter, had my address and phone number. They claimed I had opened a line of credit from US Bank in 2005, that was closed for non payment in 2007. I have never had an account with them. I was told that I was being sued for over $7,000 and that the charges included fraud. I told them that they had the wrong person, and they replied that they would send me a copy of my signature. I called US Bank, and they said that they had no record of my ever having an account with them. They had so much of my personal information, I am afraid of what they can do with it. Has anyone who has been contacted by these people had their identities stolen? Does anyone know exactly who to call to report this or file a complaint?
