Same thing here. The guy I spoke to was an absolute jerk and said this debt was from just a couple of years ago but I haven't gone by that name since 2001!
Recvd call, one jerk wanted to confirm who I was by giving me the last four of my social security number, would not tell me the name of the company or the reason for the call. Out of curiosity I remained on the line (I like to report as many of these a**holes as possible). Another male jerk came on the line, brief name Adair (fake), no company name. Going to do me a big favor to prevent the IRS from charging me tax on "debt forgiveness" by Discover card for the period of 1996-2001. He used my previous married name, my husband is deceased which he did not know. He wanted to cut a "deal with me" instead of paying the full debt of $5,1xx.xx, he could reduce the debt to $3,000.00 if I was willing to commit to a payoff schedule. When I requested proof, he read me my full social security number, old address and asked what more I needed. I replied, "give the charge statements from 1996-2001 that shows the charges and debt incurred before I have anymore discussion with you". He got ticked off, told me I was 'stalling' and said he would just turn the paper work over to the IRS.
OH, please! Did he really believe that the IRS did not have this information and has already applied the debt forgiveness to my taxes over 10 years ago! This is a scam. I wish I knew how to stop it.
What else will they do with my social security number? Heaven only knows.
Anyway, I have a phone number and will report to as many local, state and Federal agencies I can find.

Just got a call from this number, when I answered it all it kept saying is please hold, you call will be completed momentarily. What gives. Why call a number, and then not answer the phone? Keep in mind they called me, I didnt call them.
I just got a call from this number and i let it go to voicemail. Im waiting on a job to call me back and thought it was possibly them. But when i listened to the voicemail the lady was asking for someone else and was being very rude and obnoxious. She accused me of being in debt but she didnt even have the right number!
If your going to call someone and be completely rude about them being in debt, make sure you have the right number first! What a [***]!
