Somewhat funny here... I say this because last week I recv'd 3 notices from 2 different agencies (MJR & CRM) over 3 different outstanding 7+yr old debts with TD (Overdraft, LOC and C.C.). Their phone calls have just recently started, and today when I went to chat with the fellow over a "Very Urgent MSG", I told him to hang on a second as I take my jacket off (I had just come in the door) and he immediately hung up on me. Humm...!?! LOL!! (Had he not, I would have treated him like a 976 call girl - that's always fun and freaks them out)
So, in my case it doesn't matter. These debts are stats barred and no longer on my credit reports. I'm guessing that this is TD's last attempt at collecting the debt before they sell it off to a 3rd party (Acktiv Capital, etc..).
My advice to others: Know when your debts are stats barred by provincial legislation at time of default. Verify your credit reports and determine if debts have been sold to a 3rd party. Refrain from overreacting - i/e: Don't let them make you scared. Have your facts in check then play your cards.
I received a call from this number as MJR collections asking for me but the middle name was incorrect. Also, the birthdate was wrong too. I responded that it was not me and hung up. I got another call 5 min later asking for the same person which I responded again was not me. A couple days later, I got a message from them by someone named from Alicia saying it was very important to call back at 1-877-669-4935 with some reference number. I called and it was MJR collection agency but I hung up without leaving a message. I wish they would leave me alone and not try and find people in the phonebook with the same name.
The Phone companies around the world are in collusion with these
types of people otherwise there would already be a device
where we could type in numbers we want blocked and the
calls would not be able to even get through.
I figured this was a creditor for my brother so I didn't even pick it
up. Searched it and found all these things. I don't even
answer unlisted numbers or 1-877/1-800 numbers because of this.
A tool of Satan once called from one of these creditor
agencies for my brother and I swear if I ever knew who the
[***] was there would be a serious beating of his face for how
he talked to me and my mother. These people are as low life as tow truck drivers.
Look guys, the reason the people at these collection agencies are so harsh and threatening and rude is because they work ON COMMISSION. They have a base salary sure, I think it's like 1 grand a week for MJR. But the fact is the more delinquent accounts they close (i.e. the more people they convince to pay their bill in full)... the more money they make!
So you don't have to be scared of their threatening phone calls. Just hang up. If they keep calling, tell them they have the wrong number and say "You've reached a hospital." Then they will take you off their list for sure.
These numbers are all on a "delinquent list" and no one knows who called last, which is why sometimes you can be called 20 or 30 times per day. "Sarah" who just came in for the afternoon shift doesn't know that "Matthew" just called the same number during the day shift. Like a previous poster, they're just a bunch of kids working a [***] base + commission job.
Ask to work out a payment arrangement (even $20 a month if you have to go that low) or go to a debt consolidator or get a lawyer and tell them to call your lawyer. Or tell them to sue you. They won't unless you owe a LOT of money.
Really, there is no reason to get freaked out over these calls. It's just high-pressure tactics cuz they work on commission, just like a car salesman tries to pressure you into buying a car. These people don't hate you, they don't even know your history most of the time, they just want you to pay your bill so they'll earn a bonus.

Your right, it would take everybody in the world not paying their bills, but it only takes a handful of CEO's giving themselves big bonuses to through the country into a recession. So keep on worshiping the capitalist ideologies.
