Called and asked for the number on our printer in our office...I have had these calls before so I hung up. She called back and said that I "have an ugly name, by the way!" Who does that???
Our receptionist got burned by same scam when she first started, and we got over-billed for refurbished toner, ink cartridges, etc . As mentioned above, they will call and ask for your copy machine serial number. Unsuspecting receptionists, trying to be helpful, give them the # (which these morons research for the type of toner compatible to your machine), and the caller innocently asks for the name of the person they are speaking to, thanks them and hangs up. A few days later, a shipment of toner, etc., arrives. The PO# on THEIR over-priced invoice is the name of the receptionist (or whoever they spoke with). Fortunately, most companies are on to this. I got a call last week with "private caller" as the ID--no introduction, no company name-and the girl just asked for our copier serial number. I said "No, thanks!" and hung up her!
Our office received a phone call from these people today saying they needed the model number off of the front of our copier, since I work with our copier company I knew right away this was a scam. Your copier company that SELLS you the copy equipment should never call you up to ask what kind of equipment you have. They should know that so don't fall for calls like this!!
