This number has called me about 15 times today alone, no one says anything and when you attempt to call back to find out who it is, the number states that you have reached a non-working number for United Health Group. I've tried to look this company up and I'm not sure if the number/company are associated. I have no debts, thanks to God, but this is annoying.
This was United Healthcare calling to advise they had spoken to my provider regarding a surgical procedure I was having done and to confirm the procedure did not need prior authorization. I did not provide any information on my end, she just gave me the updates- she knew my date of surgery, dr and the codes they'd use to bill my procedure.
This phone call was completely legitimate in my situation. United Healthcare was calling me with an answer regarding a claim I had a question about earlier in the day.
Got this call on my clinic business # that rings to my home office, after hours. She said that she wanted my business tax ID. No way! I'm a sole provider of my clinic & my ID is my SS#. It was set up to sound legit with recording that says "this call is being recorded for quality". But, my CID showed the # with "Unavailable", so I knew that it was a verifier/spammer/scammer and told her so, and hung up. (I am already IN-NETWORK as a medical provider, and they reimburse me for my patients via ACH, already, so this made no sense.) I called back with my # blocked, and it did not sound authentic.
Got this call, again. This # left a long msg on my business vm about verifying my Provider info and something that I could not understand, but it sounded like a "provider cancellation" (cancelling my in-network contract?). I didn't believe it. They would not cancel my contract in this manner. It was left by a girly-sounding voice, saying that he was "James", and to call two out-of-area #s that do not ID themselves (when I called them, blocked) and asked for the reference # to be left on an extension vm mail that only said "Vincent". This was on 9/27. Then, today,10/6, the same # called my personal home land line, asking for the business mgr. On my private home phone? How did they get that? United would never call that #. I told "James" that I had notified United & to stop the scams. And, I kept a recording of his voice to forward to them, in case it is a scamming employee. But, the # may be spoofed. (This is the 4th call that I have gotten from them, asking for my National Provider ID or tax ID. Beware. Obviously spammer/scammers.)
