I just received an unsolicited call from this number. No identification. I once went ballistic at least every second day until I finally built myself a Caller ID box and designed it to work exactly the way I wanted. Now the phone only connects to the line (and rings) if the number matches a programmed list. In Province numbers are answered by the answering machine after the fourth ring cycle and all other numbers are dumped by a 3 second quiet termination after the third ring cycle. Blocking calls from selected numbers is useless, and machines and Telco's that offer that as a solution are actually just a part of the problem. There are millions of potential scam numbers. You can not know what the next one will be and block it without being disturbed first! The National Do Not Call List is also a joke.
I haven't been disturbed by a single unknown caller or had to swear at anyone for over a year now. It's been great.
I just got one..Called ID showed "Salem", answered it, I said nothing, nothing on the other end and put the receiver down till it cut the connection.971 is a cell phone prefix on a lot of people's cell phone co contracts here in Oregon as I know 2 people local that have that prefix.
Has to be a telemarketer as once you say something the "spiel" starts so I never say anything.
What a novel idea. So how does one get a system like that or build one ?
Yes, the National Do Not Call List is a real joke.I know part of the prob is that the scammers can change their prefixes/#'s so fast that they can't track them(per the FTC as I talked to them) The list, tho, is still a joke . No one ever contacts you about anything.
The call came in at dinner time: 5:30 p.m. PDST. I never answer calls that do not have a personal ID. I figure that if they are legitimate they will leave a message.
The caller ID says IND SUR GROUP. They did not leave a message. When I called them back, a voice that sounded like a woman in Mumbai said "The number you have called is temporarily unavailable."
