Same as other reports. Called my mother in law. She fell for the scam, allowed them access to the computer, and now reports the computer runs slowly.I don't know what they did to her computer - investigating today. Does anyone know how to revoke their remote access?
This scam has been around since 2009 or earlier. A Google search for "windows computer repair scam" will provide lots of background. The following link provides a good summary:

Bottom line - never give anyone personal information or information that will let them access your computer or accounts unless you initiate the transaction.
No reputable company will contact you and ask for this kind of information!
Same as others are reporting. Name of Windows services was IFixResolutions. They asked me to type in 'eventvwr' and run it to step through fixing problems that could my computer to crash. At that point, I refused and asked them for the number to call to verify their legitimacy. After searching web for their company name, and then typing in their number, I am relieved that I did not cooperate.
I got call this morning and instead of calling them back I reported it to Microsoft. They said They would never call anyone with such a message. Good thing you didn't call back. They just want to trick you out of money.
Someone named Michael Wilson called. He had a thick Hindi accent. Every time I expressed doubt he'd assure me he was from MS. He was close to losing his temper when I kept asking for verification. He gave me this phone number and his ID#:12345 (just like Spaceballs). FYI: I work as a Polling Institute interviewer. We do academic, non-partisan polling. People like this make my job harder.
I received a call this morning from this number. He told me I had several viruses in my computer and I should type in "eventvwr" so it would allow them to fix my computer on their end, before it crashed. I felt something wasn't right and told this "Tom " was his name that I would not do as he asked and he kept telling me he worked for Windows and gave me the telephone number. He said the name of the company was Ifix Web Solutions. He had a very heavy accent and I could not understand him very well. I'm so glad I hung up on him.
