This is a criminal extortion ring operating out of India. ABC News released an investigative report on it in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
I was called by Starnet and told if I did not come up with $750 they would come out and arrest me and my 2 daughters. They have threatened me numerous times over the phone.
Got a call from this number. Indian guy in a call center said he was Adam Smith from Department of State. Said I had a civil action proceeding against me. I called the local county sheriff and gave them this number and info.
There is a indian peron calling me at my job and on my cell saying I have three criminal charges filed against me and that i need to call right away or I will be arrested. It happened after I applied for a loan on the internet. But I never excepted the loan. So I dont understand what this is?
I got a call from work regarding me being arrested due to the financial owes that I never had, this person is Indian accent beware this company, the 973 area code is coming from New Jersey. I reported to state police this phone # and they they will track it down, be careful do not give any information especially your SS # and your bank name, account they will take your money.
