SCAM alert! I just got a call from 978-376-7327. They asked if I have parents, and that they have a male and a female that were in a car accident. They asked for the color of my parents car and my parents names to "verify". I asked them "where" and they said "dupage". I only gave them my parents first name, and I said I don't know my parent's car color. I googled the number - There's one other incident on facebook involving the same phone number. Apparently they are trying to pull information to try to get to your parents and fake a kidnapping to extort money. I'm not sure where they found my number
I received a call from (978) 376-7327 less than 30 minutes ago. The caller had a slight accent. He stated that his brother had been in a car accident in Arizona with one of my family members. There were three vehicles involved, a pickup, a four door car, and an SUV. He said that his brother took my family member's keys, phone, and kidnapped them. He stated that his brother was a cartel member and is wanted/running from the cops. He asked for my name and I told him that I was not comfortable giving out that information until I knew who they thought they had that was related to me. I asked him to repeat/clarify several times. I then asked them where this accident happened. He initially said something like Gilvert. I told him that there is no Gilvert in AZ. He then said, Gilbert. I asked him if he could hold for just a minuted. When I picked up again he hung up. I called Gilbert PD and they said this is a scam call that they have had reported over the last couple days. (My carrier is Verizon)
The call was on my cell phone. A Hispanic male tells me that there were some people were in a car accident in Gilbert and that their brother got my number from one of the people in the accident. They tell me that there is a pick up truck, SUV and sedan in the accident but nothing more detailed. He couldn't tell me who gave him my number. I didn't oblige and said I'd call my family to verify. Later on I decided to call the number back, it did not have voice mail but it triggered them to call me again and the same person repeated (verbatim) the information he told me the first time he called.
I got this call today while driving and had to pull off the road it was so upsetting. He asked if I had a daughter son or husband that drove a sedan SUV or truck. It sounded fishy and he said thank goodness I reached you I hope you are sitting down because I have bad news. He kept saying he wanted my husbands name. I was so upset I handed the phone to my son in law. My son in law kept asking him who he was and what police department this was and the guy finally hung up. I will report to police. We all should follow up and report. This needs to be stopped.
