Received and call from a Montana Phone Number stating I needed to call 978 856 8289. Claims were made of sending registered mail I didn't pickup. I haven't received any thing along those lines. Blocking numbers no contact names were left in the message including a company name.
Leave messages saying a summons has been issued, time sensitive, seek legal assistance, etc. Is scam. Will curse you and accuse you of being deadbeat. Gave them false citation number and they took the bait. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. Report to Lowell Police Department (detective division) at 978-937-3200. Also report to Lowell Sun newspaper (city desk) at 978-458-3311. Instructions on how to sue at this link - DO NOT CALL LIST does not protect you. http://no-more-calls.com/how-to-sue-a-telemarketer/
If you read the DNC instructions prior to signing up, you would realize that the DNC does not cover debt collectors, nor was ever designed to. They have their own special law. The instructions on how to sue a telemarketer are useless here since this is not a telemarketer which is defined as someone selling something by phone. The key word there is "selling" which a debt collector does not do.
This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Please note that process servers do not ever call ahead. That way you can’t dodge them.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

This phone number is to a SCAMMER! I don't know how they got my info, but they only had the last four digits of all of my info. They had the last four of my social, as well as the last four to an old checking account. I asked for proof of me signing for a the payday loan that they say that I took out. IT WAS FAKE ALSO! It was from an attorney in Phoenix, AZ, so I called the Sec. of State for AZ, and looked him up, and they have no record of him at all. The letter said that it was a guy named Steve Nalley. His title is IMS Processing, Chief Arbitration Representative, and they give a toll free number to call. IT IS ALL A SCAM!!! Do not fall for it! Do NOT send these people any money, or give them and credit card numbers or debit card numbers!
It happened to me too! They somehow got my brother's contact info in another state, which I have never given out to anyone, and have been calling him repeatedly looking for me. I called the 978-856-8289 and gave the case number they had given him. They had the last 4 of my SSN and asked if that was me. They then proceeded to tell me that a company called Midlands Financial LLC had filed charges against me for a payday loan for $600 that was taken out last fall and that I now owed over $1000. I told her that I had never taken out any loan and don't even have a checking account. She asked if anyone close to me would have had access to my personal info around that time. Just so happens that my ex, who just went to prison recently for holding me hostage and putting a knife to my throat, and who has a history of forged checks and fraud, was arrested for the assault on me right around that time. I became very upset and the woman acted all sincere and apologetic and asked to put me on hold so she could talk to the arbitration dept. After being gone maybe a minute, she came back and said that they would be willing to give me a break as a "hardship" case and I would only have to pay a little over $300 of it. I told her I don't have it, I'm on SSDI, and she said they would take monthly payments, and wanted to know how much i could come up with right now. By this time I had become suspicious and Googled the number and found this site and the other reports. I told her I would have my attorney contact her and refused to give her any personal information. I reported this to Consumer Finance. It makes me sick that these people have no conscience or guilt about taking advantage of people who are already struggling.
