Just answered a call from 979-690-1523 on my home phone. Usually I don't answer unfamiliar numbers, but since my son just moved to Texas, I answered. The line stayed open, but no one spoke. My caller ID showed the caller identity as V82721053800009
This may sound stupid...but now I worry that because I have WIFI and I stayed on the line repeatedly saying "hello" that he could somehow hi-jack my nearby computer...or that he could use the sound of my voice to voice activate a bogus line of credit. I realize that each of these two worries sound far-fetched, but why would he remain on the line in silence and not make his unscrupulous sales pitch? I further wonder if they target seniors who are often too naive and gullible for their own good. I am 65. Any others in this thread in an older age range?
I get a call about 3x a week from this number. Always someone from "Microsoft" always asking me to get into my computer. They said they had reports to fix errors on my PC. I told them I don't own a PC and they say "are you sure??" they are rude and just hang up. **DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE SCAMMERS!!!** Do NOT give them access to your computer. Hang up on them.
--- Also lately, they've just been hanging up on me. I say "hello?" and they don't say anything for about 15-20 seconds...then they hang up.
I'm not worried - it's just annoying.
If they call back and say they're from "Microsoft" do not give them ANY information! They are rude and will push for information and access to your computer, but just hang up.
