I have no debt other than a current home loan. The message they left was very odd and computer generated. The names were all left blank, and it felt like it was a scam of some sort. I have no doubt that they do not operate on the up and up!
Maryland Heights just called me looking for my x girlfriend and when i asked what the call was about the lady was very rude and wouldnt say, I told her that i wouldnt relay the message because of her rudness, its no doubt a collecter.
I just got a call from this number. I didn't answer and let them leave a voicemail. I called back later and they asked for some guy named Anthony. I'm using a pre-paid cell phone and I don't know anyone by that name. I'm thinking this guy just put a fake number down on some form and it just so happened to be my number. They said they'd take my number off the list. Let's hope they do.
I also received the call. I called back and the gentleman REFUSED to give any info other than the name CCM. He was extremely rude and so I called the Better Business Bureau. They said this company has an F rating and MANY MANY reports against it.They then gave me an alternate number to call 314-432-2430. I instantly was on with a service manager who gave me all the info I needed w/out having to reveal any of my personal info. (of course she has caller ID so knew who I was). None the less, she was very forthcoming and revealed they are a medical collection agency... I owed a bill of $15.66.
All the drama for THAT! Anyway she claimed to be looking up the conversation I had with the rude person earlier and would deal with it. I in turn revealed that I had called the BBB and had filed a complaint. She understood. A company MUST reveal who they are, they ca not with hold that info...in turn DON"T give them info w/out knowing why they are calling!
Thanks to Lee who called the Better Business Bureau, I knew how to deal with a call I just got this morning at my office. At that number they are very kind and got straight to it. I told them the number CCM called, and they said immediately who the call was for. A name I'd never heard of. Sounds like (I hope) they won't call here again.
Thing is, bill collectors who've posted comments, you can say "pay your bills," but that's a generalization. You don't know what's going on. What we're all talking about are first-time calls. Why don't you try negotiating first? It's not necessary to be an a**hole. If it become necessary, it isn't going to work anyway! In my case this morning, I think someone gave our number deceptively. It happens a lot.
If I owe something, that's fine for collectors to ask for it. But be civil for crying out loud. It's a poor assumption to make that the person they're calling is a deadbeat. If someone calls with that "you're a no-good waste of flesh" attitude just because I might have forgotten to pay a bill or somehow couldn't, I'm much more likely to respond with a stern expletive and a loud click than the $15 I might owe.
Do what you're supposed to do, all of us, and if you can't, negotiate with some civility--on both sides. What's so hard about this?
I have been called at least 5 times while I was at work, when
I get home caller ID says unknown person, and when they leave a message the number is always 314-513-0122, my phone was out for
about 4 days, immediately after it was fixed I goe the same call
the message only had the tel. number on it. I will get them one
of these days and find out what the problem is, I have no outstanding bills.
