I have been audited by the IRS and what's stated above is true. You get the notice in US Mail and throughout the whole process, I never talked to a live person. The IRS poses questions in the letter. You answer the questions via US Mail and provide documentation. They send you a completion letter with the decision.
I can see how this would scare the crap out of someone who's frail or less aware. I hope the media runs hard with this story and educates the masses. The media should play the "threat" message over the air so all can hear.
2nd call this month, just had message left on my phone. came up as an unknown number not an area code like most state offices would. stated the same, tax fraud etc. Claimed to be "Officer James Anderson". Had a very forced voice as if trying to hide accent. Said was issuing arrest warrant. scam artist in action, I will not be returning any calls

Got one here, too, on December 23rd. Claimed calling from tax audit department and would issue arrest warrant for illegal tax evasion or fraud...but before they did that, "call back at 571-234-6503 to speak to James Hatterson? Anderson? Thanks and have a nice day." Whatever. Not falling for your scam, buddy!
