Got a call from Asset Acceptance asking for a person that does not live here.
The call was from an automated system, and it's message was recorded by my answering machine.
Included in the long-winded message was "By continuing to listen you are acknowledging that you are [name of person]". Such a statement is ridiculous. The message said to call "Donald Wilson" at 1-877-692-6188.
I called the number and specifically asked for "Donald Wilson" but (according to the representative) such a person was not on the internal phone directory - meaning no such person exists. A obvious (and as far as I know) unlawful deception.
I have been getting other calls asking for a person with the same name. Everytime I try to get information on where my (unlisted) phone number was acquired, they say it's "private information" and they won't disclose how they got it. That means that the calls stop only for the length of time it takes for the next collection agency to get the information. That means more calls are sure to occur in the future, from other debt collectors.

that person doesnt live here they call like allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day from 8 in morning till 8 30 at night. Im old and disabled cant handle the stress. my grand kids are so upset.. they ask for a weird name they dont live here I live alone and it scares me please leave me alone please.!!! from my grand daughter tif SHES HELPING ME..
caller is Asset Acceptance which is a bottom feeder collection service. Do Not under any circumstance answer--they will not be nice and will not even tell you what they are calling for until they have the number they called in their database as an answered number. Even if they say they will remove your number from their call base, when they sell the zombie debt to someone else, they rarely tell them what the results of their "attempts to collect were" but rather that "this number was a valid number on..." A pox on all of them and their seed. Never answer and if you do demand written proof that they own a debt of yours--they are required to furnish it if requested.
My experience is that they rarely remove your number from their call list and frequently have bad information about who they are calling and the alleged debt to include how old the debts are. Also, legal avenues to combat this harassment are largely ineffectual since no agency in law enforcement wants to be bothered by nit noi complaints like this--I have found that threatening doesn't work but being a pest at your local sheriff's office or state's attorney's office works occasionally--they usually refuse because they use the excuse that they would be acting on a civil matter--in reality they don't like to be bothered.
Don't answer the calls--ever. Use caller ID and block calls when they start--usually they'll go away in about 6 months when they sell the debt to someone else; then it starts all over again. Post here and elsewhere so others can know who are the dirtbags!
These are the same idiots that call from 866-369-9457 - Asset acceptance looking for someone that does not live here.
I have set their 866 number to automatically be sent to a 900 pay per call number so that they get charged $49.99 minute per call (No, I do not get charged, they do) almost $250 per call because there is a minimum of 5 minutes per call.
I am sending this to the same number so maybe they get the idea that they are calling the wrong number.
Get an idea... Ms Haywood does not live here idiots!!!!
