Got a call from Asset Acceptance asking for a person that does not live here.
The call was from an automated system, and it's message was recorded by my answering machine.
Included in the long-winded message was "By continuing to listen you are acknowledging that you are [name of person]". Such a statement is ridiculous. The message said to call "Donald Wilson" at 1-877-692-6188.
I called the number and specifically asked for "Donald Wilson" but (according to the representative) such a person was not on the internal phone directory - meaning no such person exists. A obvious (and as far as I know) unlawful deception.
I have been getting other calls asking for a person with the same name. Everytime I try to get information on where my (unlisted) phone number was acquired, they say it's "private information" and they won't disclose how they got it. That means that the calls stop only for the length of time it takes for the next collection agency to get the information. That means more calls are sure to occur in the future, from other debt collectors.
yep i got this twice now ist time couple of weeks ago
wants to identify "my name" at "this number" thru "press 1" etc procedures.
It is a name I don't use for finances. Also my finances are tight and I can't
imagine what it could be. I say investigate and DO NOT EXPOSE YOURSELF!
anybody even talking to them is an idiot!
note: [ when i bought my house years ago a real debt was on my credit report that I had to call and deal with I DID (It was an 11 yr old unsecured small credit card) weeks later I got COPYCAT letters with
almost identical numbers from who knows where. ONLY stuff on your credit reports count!]
Thank you for the helpful info guys I definitely won't answer the phone, people are scumbags though. I need a job but not so badly I would do this for a living.....
Fire Collection agencies here's how:
Look for a book titled BACK OFF by Benjamin Dover. It is no loner in print so the only copies out there are used ones. buy it and read it! then send a cease communications letter to any company that is harassing you. even if it's not your debt they are calling about. that will stop any calls to your phone number concerning that debt.
Stop annoying phone calls;
Just have caller ID and don't answer any 800 number phone calls or calls from people you don't know. most of them will be from out of your area code. so if the phone number calling you doesn't have your area code, DON'T ANSWER IT! you can always call it back from a different phone number like a Tracfone cell phone to check on what the call was about. One clue for everyone is if you ask what the company does and they are not willing to tell you then it's most likely a collection agency. Hang up on them if they won't tell you as those people that won't tell you are rude people. If they do tell you what they do, thank them and politely hang up. the reason I mention tracfone cell phones is your number will not be given to the business your calling unlike your household phone number that is registered to you. If you didn't know your number will be given to places that pay for a number to always be displayed on their caller id even if your number is unlisted and even if you pay for your number to be unlisted. the phone companies do sell that type of service to collection agencies and other businesses. That service serves the purpose of cutting down on prank callers to businesses too.
