Got a call from Asset Acceptance asking for a person that does not live here.
The call was from an automated system, and it's message was recorded by my answering machine.
Included in the long-winded message was "By continuing to listen you are acknowledging that you are [name of person]". Such a statement is ridiculous. The message said to call "Donald Wilson" at 1-877-692-6188.
I called the number and specifically asked for "Donald Wilson" but (according to the representative) such a person was not on the internal phone directory - meaning no such person exists. A obvious (and as far as I know) unlawful deception.
I have been getting other calls asking for a person with the same name. Everytime I try to get information on where my (unlisted) phone number was acquired, they say it's "private information" and they won't disclose how they got it. That means that the calls stop only for the length of time it takes for the next collection agency to get the information. That means more calls are sure to occur in the future, from other debt collectors.
Wow.....If that really is true, then report their [***] to the FTC. They are only allowed to call between 8am and 9pm. Scumbags!!! When they call you again, ask for their correspondence address, and send them a cease and desist letter demanding them never to call you again.
If you have nothing to do with them...report them to the Better Business Bureau , with all the datails..including times when they call...and include the phone number..al so you can report them with the General Attorney office, and they will conclude their arrasment to you..
They called looking for my daughter. No one ever calls looking for her. Hasn't lived with me for years. I knew it was a debt collection agency by how secretive they were. Told the woman my daughter was not here. She asked if I'd give her a message...no. Wanted to know if she could return the call.....no. "May I ask why?", she said. MY reply...."Because she's in jail!!!" She's been in jail for as long as I can remember, so can't imagine who she'd owe a debt to. Never even had a credit card...always paid for things with cash.
Call the FTC. What they're doing is not allowed by law. The FTC will help you and you can let that company know that you've been in touch with the FTC. If they ask what that is, don't dignify it with an answer. All debt collectors know who the FTC is.
