This is national grid. It is the same number that called me in the past when my bill was overdue. That wasn't a scam; my bill really was overdue. But I still didn't pay it by phone, I simply paid it electronically the way I pay all my bills, once I had the money to do so.
Currently, they are calling to schedule replacing my meter free of charge. This is because Mass state law requires the replacement every 7 years, even if the meter is fully functional. I converted from oil to gas seven years ago. Scam? No, not in my case.
But I'm glad so many others are suspicious in general. That is a healthy skepticism. For me, it checks out in this case.
STOP calling. I do not have any account with National Grid and do no even live in NY. I have called back 3 times now asking for my number to stop being called...only to receive another call the same day.
Numerous message received since moved in Aug last year, never picked up since the number is "unknown" to me or no standing issue with National Grid though I do use their utility service. Female voice mail messages all the same but does NOT sound legitimate to me, "Hello, this is National Grid, calling on an important matter, please call 800-922-8201, select option 3 to ask speak to Mr. Fran Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm, thank you and have a great day." I am a MA resident but was able to recognize 718 area code is from NY not MA!
they call me every day, sometimes twice a day....been going on for about a year. I never answer...they always leave a recorded message to call national grid and ask to speak to a mr...who cares for an important announcement... I hope they're not holding their breath for my return call..
