This number was used by the Elmsford, NY-based collections company "American Medical Collection Agency" (also doing business as "Retrieval Masters Credit Bureau") in an attempt to reach me at a (740) number. Regardless of the legitimacy of the bill they are seeking to collect (sloppy vendor may have lost record of my payment) I find their use of a "local" number questionable. Companies that trade in personal information for a living should be held to a higher standard of transparency than that.
I received a second call from this number today. The lady was quite nice (the first guy that called months ago was not). They asked me the same question the did several months ago, if I had a way to contact a person that I don't know. I did recognize the name though and explained that the ONLY connection I had to this person was they had purchased a home I once lived in. She said my number (which was unlisted until about a year ago) was listed as a possible connection to this person. I informed her that the only connection was that they lived in my old house which they had purchased from the couple that purchased it from me. I was reluctant to be helpful since I suspected it was a debt collector. She attempted to tell me that they were trying to deliver good news. I was suspicious and asked whether a letter had been sent to their home address and she said yes. I said, well, if its good news I am sure they would respond to the letter if they wanted. I asked to be removed as a connection to this person.
Have had several calls from this #. I have an unlisted # to begin with & also I am a Canadian Wintering Georgia -- enough already!!!!! It's bothersome whether one answers the phone or runs to get the phone in case it's an legitimate call.
