This scammer calls numbers on the national do not call registry in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. They further violate the TCPA by failing to have an operator on the line when the call is answered, and still further by playing a recorded message without an operator on the line to pause or stop the recording and answer questions. When you do get to an operator, they further violate the TCPA by refusing to provide a phone number or physical address when asked - something that any legitimate business would do, even if it weren't required by law. This is clearly a scam, as they are trying to get your credit card and banking information claiming they are calling from your credit card company and need to lower your interest rates. Do not provide this scammer with any personal or financial information.
I get multiple calls every week on my home phone AND cell phone. I've tried pressing 1 and asking to be removed, they always hang up. Whenever the call is answered, the person on the other end barely speaks English.
For curiosity, I will have to try the time wasting things with them, and will have to make up a fake name and credit card number. Does anyone know if calling back and hitting the "1" option to be removed actually works, or do you find new scammers calling since they verified your number?
