I got the same type of call from the same # just 10 min ago. Too many people wants to get rid of viruse in my computer. Said my own antvius software and company is not good enogh. A weekly viral scan takes an hour to do all my files and I wonder how an outsider can get into my computer and instantly know I have viruses.
I did not spend much time with him about 5 mins.
I have just received this suspicious call from the same number and was also told I had viruses on my computer and that I should immediately drop my supper and go to the computer. I didn't and have been trying to contact my Service Provider but the lines are busy. Sounds like a scam to me.
This is definitely a scam...DO NOT do what they ask! Report them to Better Business and any cyber crime contacts you have!
I asked where they were from. The said London, UK... I questioned the Jersey Area code. They hung up. My guess is that they are also phishing for VoIP connections too.
They reported being a service provider for Mircosoft. I told them I used UNIX. Strike 2!
I called Microsoft and they told me that I wouldn't ever recieve a phone call regarding issues.
Caller identified themselves as Richard Vincent from some company in Utah (obviously not, as this is a NJ #). Tried to tell my mother that she had a virus on her PC and if she would turn her computer on, they will remotely access it and get rid of the virus for her. She replied with "We don't use Windows, we have a Mac." They replied with "We have someone here who deals with Macs." Luckily, my mother did not fall for this and told them that she didn't know how to work the computer and that her daughter deals with that stuff. They have called twice already and I'm sure they will call again... hopefully I will be the one to answer the next time. The scary thing was that they knew my mom's name (first and last). DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!!!
