So I have an account on care.com for dog walking service and got a text message from this number asking met to email her sister who is looking for a dog walker. I emailed and got a response that was very detailed and basically saying they wanted to hire me to walk there two dogs when they moved to this area. They would send a cashier check ahead of time as the dogs might get there before they do and so on.... Well I'm thankfully aware of scams like this and hope this helps someone make the decision that it's to good to be true and they are scamming you for money. Even if your bank accepts the check about 7 days later it will deny it and your bank account can be negative by thousands of dollars. They will try everything to get you to send them money as fast as possible because of this. Be aware! You work hard for your money, don't let people do this to you!!!
Received a call from 201 374 8004 about 1hour ago
wanting to fix computer. I told them to call tomorrow but after these reports now I no its a scam. Thanks
Same story about the Windows virus. Man with heavy accent claiming his name is John Smith. Wants to help. I hang up since heard about this on the news and it being a scam. Get this call almost daily.
I just got a call from them. I've had them call before. Told them to take me off their calling list and he told me they would have to charge me to do that!!! I yelled profanities at them while he continued to talk and I hung up on them.
So far, I am getting calls from (515) 367-0266 and (201) 374-8004.
This is a business phone. When they hear me answer, they don't say anything
then hang up.
Went on White Pages reverse look up. Both numbers have a
Republic Wireless base. But Republic claims they do not recognize the
numbers.
Had received these calls before I knew what they were. Claimed
they were from Microsoft and my computer had been flagged. Claimed
he was from their tech repair department. (Microsoft does have one)
Found out this guy, (there is only one) is based in Omaha, NE.
He's been the subject of several fraud investigations but they can't
seem to catch him. He vanishes just about the time they are closing
in on him. He'll use one number for a week or so, then cancel that one
and get a new one.
Went on "Do Not Call" web site. It stops the current number until
he gets a new one.
Contacted Microsoft. They are also trying to catch this guy. Their
warning was that Microsoft does not call their customers. Only contact is with
e-mail.
Received a call from 201-374-8004 this morning. Indian accent women (I think) told me she was from Windows and there could potentially be a problem with my computer and I would need to do this and that and she could "fix" it. About 6 months ago I had one of these calls and found that this is a fraudulent call. They want you to let them into your computer and then when you computer doesn't work, they want to charge you $300 to again "fix" it! Today I just yelled "you are a fraud, Windows does not contact people by phone and do not call this number again EVER!" She hung up. About an hour later, same number shows up but when I answered, they hung up.
