I just got a call on from this number, too, they left a recorded voicemail about carpet cleaning. I also have a 201 area code cell phone. I looked up this phone number all over the internet and it led me to an IP phone company based out of England. I called them, acting all innocent and like I really wanted to find out who their NJ Carpet cleaning customer was so I could use their services. They put me on hold for a few minutes and said they couldn't give me any information on the phone number (which of course, is not what I asked!).
I also called Verizon to have this number blocked, but they told me they cannot block a number if it is not a 10-digit number. This is clearly designed this way on purpose to get around anti-spam rules. They are using IP phones to make these calls and putting 9-digit phone numbers in for their caller ID, knowing that companies cannot block them. My phone is on the Do Not Call registry and I never get marketing calls, so I am really curious to know if they got my number off some list or if they're just dialing every number in the 201 area code. My bet is on the latter.
If they call again I will pick up and try to schedule an appointment. If I get anywhere with this I will update here!
recieved the same call today I also live in nj they did not leave a message I did call back the number by adding a digit to the end and 0 thru 9 came up busy, I also found out the exchange is located in wyckoff NJ
This sh*t *is* illegal. Unsolocited phone calls to a cell phone are absolutely 100% illegal in the US and carry a stiff fine of about $1000 per call to the violator.
As for the exchange being in wyckoff, NJ, 201 is actually most of north jersey. I've lived here for years.
Anyway, it's an ad robot. Pressed 1 to get more info and got silence on the other end.
