I just got a call on from this number, too, they left a recorded voicemail about carpet cleaning. I also have a 201 area code cell phone. I looked up this phone number all over the internet and it led me to an IP phone company based out of England. I called them, acting all innocent and like I really wanted to find out who their NJ Carpet cleaning customer was so I could use their services. They put me on hold for a few minutes and said they couldn't give me any information on the phone number (which of course, is not what I asked!).
I also called Verizon to have this number blocked, but they told me they cannot block a number if it is not a 10-digit number. This is clearly designed this way on purpose to get around anti-spam rules. They are using IP phones to make these calls and putting 9-digit phone numbers in for their caller ID, knowing that companies cannot block them. My phone is on the Do Not Call registry and I never get marketing calls, so I am really curious to know if they got my number off some list or if they're just dialing every number in the 201 area code. My bet is on the latter.
If they call again I will pick up and try to schedule an appointment. If I get anywhere with this I will update here!
Got call from this number on my cell today: Diane from Carpet Care. Pressed 1, asked what the company name was, and "Diane" hung up. My number is also on the Do Not Call Registy. Question is, what are they hoping to accomplish with this?
Got the same number on my cell at 4:23pm Eastern time (I'm also from New Jersey). The oddest thing is, my phone never rang (and I get GREAT reception here). My phone just lit up and said "missed call" without a single ring. I've had this cell number for six years and absolutely NOBODY has it except for my wife and my mother, so it's pretty clear to me that it was taken directly from Verizon Wireless.
I dont understand after reading some of these messages, 1 or 2 people on here seemed like they might have actually been interested in this service but still got hung up on. So whats the deal? Is this some kind of new prank caller thing? I wish they would call again.
had the same call on Dec 13th 6pm and today Dec 17th 5pm. I don't pick them if they are funny number...let them leave VM!!! I did inquired with HomeDepot a month back on new carpet. Possible privacy breach? or stolen info?
PS:I need new carpet in my new house! If you Carpet cleaner marketer read this...you just lost a business!!!!
Me to, I am in NJ with 201 AT&T cell phone number for almost 5 years. Can ATT simply stop all those funny Ids using an application ((made by those H1 people!!!))
