Very wierd- i answered the phone and the lady (with a very thick accent- and very loud background) starts talking- no acknowledging my greeting- just starts in saying her name in NANCY..and bla bla bla- i say hello 2-3 times before she stops reading her script..i ask who she is looking for and she says "your IT manager.." and them immediately asks "is that joe?" i reply- "what is this regarding and who is calling" and she replies- "this is Nancy- NANCY... with comodo- that c-o-m-o-d-o.. calling about the exp ssl license for 123.com" i tell her i can take a message and while she is polite, she was hard to understand and this is an old scam
This is Comodo SSL. They offer free 3-month SSL certificates, but the tradeoff is they then try to upsell you to one of their expensive certs. Everything has a price, right? I got one of their free certs, so they have my business phone number (it's required for validation of the certificate). If you don't want to deal with a bit of telemarketing from them, don't sign up for their free stuff.
This company calls us every week several times a week inquiring our SSL Certificate. We have told them that we do not host our site, but they keep calling. The lady who called today asked for the contact info of our web host. No one at our company is going to supply that information. It's a 3rd part company who hosts our site and we don't want you buggingg them. Look I understand everyone has a job to do, but the cold call tactics this company is using suck. It's too bad. I went to their website and it looks like they may actually have a decent product, but a lot of companies will never know because the way they are cold calling is a turn off.
They call multiple phones in our office at least four or five times a day wanting to talk about our SSL cert renewals. It's the Comodo Group. They're so annoying that we will never do business with them.
The woman, Nancy sounded very aggressive and try to make you feel intimidated. Don't be because these people don't know what they are talking about. Don't let them scare you into thinking that your domain is expired.
