Got a call from 201-716-4468 today.. Male on other end seemed to be faking tone of his voice asked to speak to "the person who handles security for this website" and when told "how may I help you" he hung up.
This is a sales call trying to use a scare tactic to get my company to switch to our SSL certification service. He told us it was about to expire and leave us vulnerable to security issues. When I told him we would take care of it through the company we already do business with, he acted like that was something we wouldn't be capable of doing on our own without his company's help.
Received a call a few days ago with a message saying to call them to *renew* my certificate and upgrade to a different ssl. I have one problem with this: I am not a customer of theirs (nor have I ever been).
This sale pitch could easily confuse someone who did not originally purchase Comodo certificates into buying new ones from them. Additionally, if they had taken ONE minute to visit my website, they would have known that no personal information or credit card / payment information is taken on my site. I do have an SSL for the site which is due for renewal in a couple of months, which I will renew with the company I use. They called again today, did not leave a message.
Received calls from Comodo (left no message) at 201-716-4468 and, another one claiming to be from Network Solutions where my website was registered (but NOT where my ssl was from so he got it wrong). The second call was from 77-627-9836. After saying he was from Network Solutions he said he was with Echofax or Equifax or something like this. Obviously these guys saw my ssl was due to expire eventually (when isn't one?) and try to scare me into giving info over to them for whatever reason. Even if this guy was comissioned by NS, which I highly doubt, he was rather dishonest in claiming to be "from" Network Solutions.
I have received several calls recently from this number and when I called back today it was indeed the Comodo Security Group. I do not understand why they are calling me. Don't even know what SSL is.
