when they called last night they said they were medco and identified my employer... and I said I was too busy to talk to them...said they would call in the morning...didn't...I don't think medco would call unless there is an issue with meds...I don't have one...why wouldn't they email first?
I recieved this call today but didn't answer. No message was left but my wife's phone recieved the next call (we're 1 number off). Same deal about asking for information they should already have. Lucky for us she thought it was shady and hung up on them. Maybe they're auto dialing right down the list?
Medco may call if there's an issue with your meds, but a lot of the time if you get a call from them it's because you have the medco option on your or your spouse's insurance but are not using it. If that's the case Medco will often call just to see if you even know what medco does, how you are getting your prescriptions, and if you're interested in using Medco's mail-order system. It's not really soliciting because they're just asking if you knew about that part of your insurance and if you were interested in utilizing it. If you don't have medco currently but are getting calls anyway, it's probably because you or your spouse have had it in the past and their records aren't caught up yet. You may think you've never had it but I had it on my FedEx insurance for over 5 years and never even noticed it or knew what it was.
Also, regarding asking for information they ought to already have - you're right, they do indeed have that information. It's the same two-edged sword you come across with identity theft scares. They have the info already, but since medco deals with private medical information (which is just about the most closely guarded category of information in the US), YOUR identity has to be verified before the conversation starts. The IRS does the same thing if you ever call them - they probably know more about you than you know yourself, but they can't start talking about your tax records and financial information until they make sure you're the right person, by asking your birthdate, SSN, etc.
I called the number back and asked to talk to management. I gave her my number and she said she would remove me from any calling lists. Hope never to hear from Medco again.
