Got the same call today. 4.25.2014. The african sounding gentleman on the phone told me the same thing. We found your name in a database, you were ordering drugs online, it is illegal according to the "RIOT" act.
When I told him I did not know who he was and I could not verify anything he said, he replied with " I will send you information in the mail" and hung up.
DONT EVER, give your information to anyone on the phone who CALLS YOU FIRST... Over the phone scams are easy for them because your information is being sold on the internet constantly, even by companies like Amazon and others.
The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet. It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met. And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the internet must be registered with DEA. By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law. In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.
What? Like people are going to buy cookies from Colorado? Yes I'd like a 2 liter keg of Opium please. This post is useless, & strikes me as a preemptive shill attack. Stay tuned.
That is EXACTLY what this is! Had this scammer call my cell phone and leave me a voicemail claiming to be with the DEA narcotics unit and that my name came up in a criminal ongoing investigation regarding the online purchasing of narcotics. At first I freaked out, thinking I was in legal trouble, but then I did some research and this scammer is only looking to extort money from me! They tell you that there is a warrant out for your arrest for purchasing online controlled substances (which I never have!) and they tell you that the charges will be dropped if you send a money order for over $1000 to them. What a crock of $hit!!!! The real DEA would never call you, they even wrote an article on their site in response to this extortion scam. If you get a call from this number, do not send them any money!!!
