This IRS scam has become a favorite of our India friends (lol) and Pakistan. They've apparently had some success in scaring people into letting them extort money. Where are the drones when you need one.
Just got call this morning that woke me up from these idiots. Number is 202-241-2071. Was at first shocked for a minute when I listened to message, then realized it was crazy mostly because "he" got our last name right but didn't know either of our first names. Also it would be someone American calling if it was IRS, not someone that sounds like their reading a piece of paper because they don't know English!!! Officer Steve cloud??????? Sure does sound like a woman like someone else said! Very pi**** off about this-receive hangups alot from Washington DC-now know why.
I just received a call from this number, and could scarcely understand the person, whose accent was very thick. There was a message that told me a criminal complaint had been filed against me by the IRS...and that I needed an attorney.
Would not tell me what the complaint was...or who I could talk to. Ended the call with "May God Save You."
I got one of these calls a few weeks ago and my wife just got another one a few minutes ago.
When it happened to me, my heart raced and, I kept trying to think "why would the IRS hire someone who spoke English so poorly?". "What is he saying?".
I told him to send me a letter, said BS and hung up the phone.
That's not how we operated when I was an IRS Revenue Officer 30 years ago, and nothing has changed. They just don't do this. No surprises like this.
Received a voice mail message from someone stating that his name is Michael Brown and he's calling about a serious allegation against me from the IRS criminal investigation office, and I am to return this call as soon as I receive the message.
He ends the call with "God bless you".
