This IRS scam has become a favorite of our India friends (lol) and Pakistan. They've apparently had some success in scaring people into letting them extort money. Where are the drones when you need one.
Total scam run out of India. First off, the IRS does not file lawsuits. If there is a need for court action, the IRS makes a request to the DOJ which makes the final decision whether or not to go to court-- usually to enforce a collection action of some kind or another. See: http://www.irs.gov/irm/part5/irm_05-017-004.html
But this only happens after a long period of administrative negotiations with the taxpayer. Before any court case would happen, the taxpayer would be well aware of it. IRS is never going to cold-call you and tell you that a case is being filed against you out of the clear blue sky.
Criminal prosecutions can only takes place after a grand jury indictment. You'd be well aware of it, if that were the case.
IRS has absolutely no authority over local police.
LOCAL POLICE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE NEVER INVOLVED IN TAXPAYER DISPUTES!!! PERIOD
Secondly, over 90 percent of all tax disputes are settled administratively during an appeals process.
This is just a scam where somebody cold-calls you and tries to scare you into paying money to somebody by Green dot money pak which is untraceable.
Ignore the call and do not return it. Block the number.
Another call, this time from 202 241 2071, from officer Brown of IRS. The guy had a non-American accent and could not pronounce my first or last Indian name, which are very common names in India. The guy claimed I committed tax fraud between 2006-2011, the criminal investigation is complete and the arrest warrant in his hands, I can pay $1400 fine now or face arrest with fines of $14,000. I told him I don't believe him and that he should stop harassing my family and me.
I have received several calls from 202 241-2071. It is a man who sounds Indian or Pakastani and asks me to return the call to that number. He says he is calling for my wife Regina and that he is from the "Investigation Division of the IRS". I'm sure this is a lie because I called the IRS and they say they don't call people but instead they send a letter if there is a problem. I have tried to return the call to see what this is about and to tell them to stop calling but I get "The phone number is not in service" so I guess they can call you but you can't call them. I'm sure the call is a scam.
I would really like to find a way to stop this nonsense. It is very troubling. I don't know if he is trying to find out if I am home so they can break into my home or if they are casting a wider net for some other reason.
