just got a call twice today from a recording from an Officer Julie smith and i want it to stop...a few months ago, it was a different name and a male caller calling twice too... number is (415) 234-9734...
IRS scam Officer Julie Smith of the Internal Revenue Service has a new number: 415-506-1282 and now, she's an automated recorded message.
Previous numbers include 202-506-8096, 202 506-9784, 202 506-9737, 202 506-9983, and 202-506-9746.
Like many scams, this one traces back to South Florida. If you're getting these calls, report them to the FCC, the FTC, and to your state's Attorney General's office. Encourage them to subpoena the records from the VOIP service provider.
P.S. It's also possible to record the calls, and ask your local news station to do an investigative report. Sometimes this helps to light a posterior incendiary device under the Attorney General's buttocks, if they're not pursuing an investigation. :-)
